Winning Culture - We are the winningest American Legion baseball program in Oregon with 18 State Championships and 5 Northwest Regional Championships
Player Development - We have a strong history of developing players to succeed at the next level; 26 of our players have been drafted into the MLB, and we currently have 20 players playing at the collegiate level
Exposure - We play in several different states in different tournaments every summer to give our players the best chance to face top level competition and play in front of/get in contact with a number of college coaches

Medford Mustangs Coaches

Coach King is a very familiar face in Southern Oregon with 15 years of coaching experience across North and South Medford High School and 5 years with the Medford Mustangs, Coach King took over as the head coach in 2024. He helped lead the team to a 2022 state title as an assistant and played college ball at College of the Siskiyous after a great career at Eagle Point High School where he took home all conference honors twice in a prestigious SOC conference.

Brett Wolfe
A Medford Hall of Famer and former Mustang himself, Coach Wolfe spent 25 years leading North Medford High School's program to dominance, capturing 2 state championships, 9 league titles, and a 2 time Oregon State Coach of the Year. His career also includes a one year stint at the college level at Western Oregon and 5 years at Seaside High School (2021-2025), where he turned the program around with a winning season in his very first year-the school's first since 2007. With 283 wins at NHMS he has coached in the State/Metro All Star Series 5 times. He has served as the Mustangs pitching coach since 2022.

Johnny King
A product of North Medford baseball, Coach King brings firsthand experience to the Medford Mustangs coaching staff. A star defensive infielder during his high school years, Johnny took home all conference honors 3 times, he played 3 seasons for the Mustangs and was a key part of the 2022 state championship team. After graduating in 2023, he played college baseball at Mt. Hood before returning to help coach the Mustangs. He has served as the primary infield coach since 2024.

Kevin Schafer
Assistant Coach
Coach Shafer enters his 2nd year with the Mustangs, bringing nearly 3 decades of coaching experience. Currently the head coach at Cascade Christian, he’s won two league titles and reached the 3A state finals in 2022. He previously served as head coach at Grants Pass and North Valley, and has 15 years of college coaching experience at Lane CC, Western Oregon, and Oregon Tech. He also has area 4 coaching stints with Roseburg, Eugene, Klamath Falls, and Grants Pass. Kevin began his coaching career after a High School State Championship at Douglas and a collegiate career at College of Southern Idaho.
